From Struggles to Strength: A Journey in Mental Health Advocacy

My journey into the world of mental health and advocacy was not a direct path, but a twisting and tumultuous road filled with struggles and challenges.

Throughout my life, I faced insurmountable obstacles, often feeling minimized, devalued, and overlooked both in my personal and professional life. The world continued to turn, and the pain and disappointment I experienced felt never-ending.

I heard the myths, the cultural narratives about being a “strong black woman.” These stories demanded that I bear my pain silently, for extended periods, with limited or no support. I was expected to deal with a multitude of major life changes and events while keeping my thoughts and feelings to myself. Phrases like “you’ll be okay,” “it is what it is,” and “you are strong, you’ve got this” were meant to be comforting, but they often left me feeling unheard and invalidated.

In the midst of these disappointments and silent struggles, I found myself energized to make a change. It was this burning desire that ignited my journey into the mental health field over 15 years ago. I sought to learn, live, and grow, armed with knowledge, skills, and gratitude. This path began with the simple act of keeping notes on my conversations, a practice that would eventually reveal the importance of individualized support and assistance when working with others.

I discovered the profound healing power of words and, conversely, how words can shatter the human spirit.

I yearned to be the advocate, the helper, and the catalyst for real transformation in the lives of those who had been silently suffering. My own life’s journey had led me to this purpose.

The rewards of witnessing others undergo genuine transformation through compassionate support and assistance fueled my commitment to this path. I resolved to provide quality, authentic, and “let’s be real” therapeutic services to individuals and companies. My journey had come full circle, as the pain and disappointments of the past now served as the driving force for my mission in the mental health field.

Today, I stand as a beacon of hope for those who feel unheard and unseen, offering a safe space for them to share their stories and heal. My journey has taught me that the path to transformation and healing is not always easy, but it is worth every step.

In every word spoken and every heart mended, I find a profound sense of purpose and fulfillment.

My journey may have started with adversity, but it continues with the promise of helping others find their own strength and resilience.
