A driving force behind a lack of motivation is a lack of movement. Some people think or tell themselves things like, “Only if I had the energy”; “When I begin to feel like it, I will do it”; or “It’s not getting done because I am not motivated to do it yet.” If you find yourself or know someone who thinks like this, then chances are you or they will not accomplish their goals.
This type of thinking breeds procrastination, and before you know it, a day, week, month, and now a year has passed, and you are still stuck in the thought and still dreaming of the “what ifs.”
Motivation is a wonderful feeling to have when we are grinding and fulfilling life’s goals and objectives, but motivation is not formed or felt out of nothingness. You must create motivation to have it. Motivation is like energy, which is transformed and transferred through actions, by doing, by moving. If you are not actively in motion, then you are inactively stopping the formation of energy. In other words, the more active you are, the more energy is created, and the more energy we crave or need. Thus, if you want to be a doer, you must do something; if you want change, you must become the change; if you want better, you must create better. Do you see what I am getting at?
If you suffer from a lack of motivation, many factors could be at play, such as an imbalance of your mental health due to a mental health issue, a lack of problem-solving abilities, especially when faced with major life demands or transitions, a lack of self-care practices, or difficulties with time management, etc.
Here are some suggestions to overcome a lack of motivation:
Talk to a mental health professional or a trusted person about your lack of motivation.
Read a great self-help book on the topic.
Listen to a motivational podcast or music.
Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who share your vision or passion for what you want to do, such as starting a business, going back to school, starting or having a family, etc.
Create a vision board.
Journal about what your best life would look like.
These are just a few ideas.

creating Hope in the Midst of Hopelessness
In my practice, I’ve encountered many clients grappling with feelings of hopelessness, burdened by heavy and draining emotions. I’ve listened to their stories, filled with despair, echoing sentiments such as, “What is there to be hopeful for in this world?” or “I’ve never felt wanted or loved; it’s just the way things are,” or “I’ve…
